Jiggies are the main collectible item throughout the Banjo-Kazooie series. They first appear in Banjo-Kazooie and return in every other game since. They are golden jigsaw pieces that can open entrances to various worlds using their magic, and are required to progress in most Banjo-Kazooie titles. Jiggies are generally obtained by completing mini-games, defeating bosses, reaching the end of platforming segments, or by helping characters.
History
Banjo-Kazooie series
Banjo-Kazooie
In Banjo-Kazooie, they are named Jigsaw Pieces, and there are 100 to collect. Each Jiggy is used to fill the Jigsaw Pictures each correspond to a world in Gruntilda's Lair, though each of them are missing at least Jiggy, making the worlds inaccessible until Banjo returns the puzzle pieces. As Banjo and Kazooie progress into their journey, the Jigsaw Pictures require increasingly more Jiggies. The first Jiggy is inside Gruntilda's Lair, on a hill left of the entrance. Banjo and Kazooie are required to have the first Jiggy to access Mumbo's Mountain.
The purpose of Jiggies in Banjo-Kazooie is similar to the Power Stars of Super Mario 64, the template game for Banjo-Kazooie and several other 3D platforming titles, in that Jiggies are the main collectible items and are required for progression.
Jiggies are supposedly ancient artifacts, as Grabba claims that he had been guarding his Jiggy for a thousand years.
Banjo-Tooie
In Banjo-Tooie, there are now 90 Jiggies to collect, ten fewer than in Banjo-Kazooie. After collecting a certain number of Jiggies, Banjo and Kazooie can enter Jiggywiggy's Temple, where the duo must solve a moving picture game titled Jiggywiggy's Challenge by putting all of the puzzle pieces in place before time runs out. Once complete, Jiggywiggy's Disciple unlocks the next world.
Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge
In Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, Jiggies are given to Jiggywikki's Disciple to unlock worlds, like in Banjo-Tooie, provided that Banjo and Kazooie have enough Jiggies, but solving a puzzle is no longer required of them. There are even fewer Jiggies to collect, specifically 60 in total.
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Jiggies can be obtained in various ways such as throughout the Acts or buying them from Jolly Dodger. After collecting them, they must be withdrawn from a Jig-O-Vend and be inserted in the Jiggy Bank, located in the center of Showdown Town in order to open new Acts. If a cop sees the duo carrying Jiggies in their vehicle, it will assume they're smuggling and chase them. There is a total of 131 Jiggies to collect, more than in any other game.
Banjo-Pilot
In Banjo-Pilot, Jiggies are collected in the Jiggy Challenges, with 6 in each course, 24 in each Cup, 96 in each Grand Prix and 192 in total, being the biggest number of Jiggies in a Banjo-Kazooie game. A Jiggy also appears as the symbol of the Jiggy Cup.
Grabbed by the Ghoulies
In Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Jiggies can be seen in several portraits throughout Ghoulhaven Hall.
Viva Piñata series

In Viva Piñata, Fizzlybears use Jiggies in their attacks and the Bird and Bear Statue depicts Banjo holding a Jiggy. Additionally, Piñatas can wear an accessory named "Jiggy Earrings," which is part of the Banjo-Kazooie-themed Accessory Pack 6, and the accessory returns in Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise.
Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing with Banjo-Kazooie
In Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing with Banjo-Kazooie, Jiggies are part of Banjo and Kazooie's All-Star Move, Jiggy Rain, involves Kazooie waving Mumbo's Wrench to launch waves of Jiggies at other racers.
Killer Instinct
In Killer Instinct, a Jiggy tattoo appears as part of the "Rarewear" costume for Rash.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, a Jiggy is one of the spirits included with Challenger Pack 3. In addition, one of Banjo & Kazooie's victory poses has the duo collecting a Jiggy and posing. A Jiggy is also the symbol representing the Banjo-Kazooie series.
In the "Best Friends" announcement trailer for Banjo & Kazooie, a Jiggy was thrown through Donkey Kong's house, foreshadowing the duo's imminent appearance.
